*Lucy Page Mercer was born on April 26th, 1891 in Washington, D.C. She married Winthrop Rutherfurd, whom was a widower with 6 children. They had one daughter together, therefore having 7 children. Then in 1984 in Aiken, South Carolina, Lucy died.
*In 1932 Lucy attended F.D.R.'s inauguration. She was his wife's, Eleanor Roosevelt, secretary.
*Lucy Mercer was connected to the New Deal because she was Eleanor Roosevelt's (the first lady at the time) secretary. Also, at this time, Lucy was having an affair with the President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was a distraction to the president during the beginning of the New Deal.
*Lucy was Pro-New Deal because she worked for the Roosevelts' who were Pro-New Deal.
*I think that the only real impact that Lucy Page Mercer-Rutherfurd made was on Eleanor Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt had promised Eleanor that he would break off all affairs with Lucy and wouldn't ever see her again. After Lucy's husband died, Franklin and her began to see each other again. Although Eleanor didn't know of these meetings until a while after they started to occur, their daughter knew. In fact, Anna made the arrangements for Franklin and Lucy to meet. Eleanor was very angry when she found out about them and was also even more angered when she found out that her own daughter was in on these meetings (setting them up) too. She was deeply upset when she also found out that Lucy was among the few people that were with Franklin D. Roosevelt when he was near death in Hot Springs.
*I believe that Lucy was Republican because she worked for a Republican President's wife.
*Lucy Page Mercer-Rutherfurd is important in history because of the secrets she had with a famous president, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was one of the many women in history to be the mistress of a president and one of three mistresses that President F.D.Roosevelt had during his life as president.
